The Tiger Woods Infidelity Scandal:
Here's a guy who had it all for a while. For several years he was the face of golf and ranked among the most successful golfers of all time.
He was one of the highest-paid athletes in the world for several years…
…had a beautiful wife - former model Elin Nordegren- and two kids
…and a great home.
And it all started melting away in November, 2009.
Eldrick Tont Woods was born and raised in Cypress, California the only child in the marriage of Earl and Tida Woods. Earl was a retired lieutenant colonel and a Vietnam War veteran. Their son's name was an amalgam of initials from his mother and his father. The nickname Tiger was in honor of his father's friend, who was also known as Tiger.
Woods referred to his ethnic makeup as "Cablinasian", because he had Caucasian, Black, Native American and Asian ancestors.
He learned to golf early. He was a child prodigy playing the game since the age of two. He even appeared in a putting contest against legendary comedian Bob Hope and a TV appearance on the Mike Douglas show.
Tiger's first major national junior tournament came in 1989 when he was 13 years old and he was paired with golfing pro John Daly, then a relative unknown.
At the age of 15 while attending high school in Anaheim, California Woods became the youngest "US Junior Amateur Champion" ever. Tiger spent his college years at Stanford University, after being heavily recruited by college golf powers.
He turned pro in August 1996 and that's when the endorsement deals started coming in, with Nike and Titleist leading the way
To quickly summarize - during much of his career he was virtually unbeatable. He won major tournaments like the Masters, US Open, The Open Championship and the PGA Championship multiple times each.
He was the PGA Tour player of the year 11 times. And he was the PGA tour leading money winner 10 times.
Here's that classic swing, in slow motion
But Tigers Achilles' heel was nowhere near his foot. He had a weakness for beautiful women and used his fame and fortune to enjoy their company, despite being married.
On November 25, 2009 the National Enquirer published a story saying that Woods had an extra marital affair with New York City nightclub manager Rachel Uchitel.
She denied it but two days later Woods left his home in a Cadillac Escalade SUV and collided with a hydrant, a tree and several hedges.
The media was flabbergasted and wanted to know more but Woods issued a statement on his website taking soul responsibility for the accident. He called it a "private matter" and credited his wife for helping him to get out of the car.
A few days later "US Weekly" released a voicemail message allegedly left Tiger for a mistress. He released another statement this time admitting transgressions and apologizing to all of them who supported him over the years. But, Tiger reiterated his and his family's right to privacy.
It was not to be. Over the next several days more than a dozen women claim to of had affairs with Tiger.
…and on December 11 he issued a third statement admitting to his infidelity and apologizing again -saying he would take an indefinite break from professional golf.
And the advertisers dumped him in the days and months after his admission of infidelity. Accenture, AT&T, Gatorade, and General Motors completely ended their sponsorship deals. Gillette suspended ads featuring Tiger.
By February 19, 2010 Woods offered a televised statement saying he had been in a therapy program since the end of December, again apologizing for his actions. He said he didn't know when he would be returning to golf.
His wife divorced him on August 23, 2010. She received a $100 million settlement.
Woods has returned to professional golf but his career has never been the same partly, because of injuries.
So far, it just seems like his old Mojo is gone.
